NYC announces the need for a Daddy Czar

Thanks to Lance over at http://www.nycdadsgroup.com for the heads up about this interesting turn of events.

MAYOR BLOOMBERG ANNOUNCES CITYWIDE FATHERHOOD INITIATIVE TO STRENGTHEN NEW YORK CITY FAMILIES

Appointment of First-ever Citywide Fatherhood Services Coordinator will Support City Agencies in Helping Fathers be Active and Accountable

Housing Authority Community Centers Will Open on Wednesdays and Saturdays and Offer Free Programming and Activities for Fathers and their Children

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced the launch of a citywide fatherhood initiative to strengthen New York City families by helping fathers be active in their children’s lives. The launch comes after the Mayor directed city agencies to review their policies and practices to make sure fathers were not unintentionally excluded from, or missing opportunities to engage in their children’s lives. The initiative includes more than a dozen programs ranging from offering parenting classes at public hospitals and homeless shelters, to educational activities for dads and their children at Housing Authority community centers. To oversee the effort, the City will hire its first-ever Citywide Fatherhood Services Coordinator.
