Halloween 2013- the Skywalkers of Yonkers

Probably about 4 months ago, AA decided that he wanted to be Luke Skywalker for Halloween. He had already been obsessing over Lego Star Wars, we'd seen 2 of the 3 movies*, and there was the possibility that he'd get to use a light saber.  What else could he be for Halloween?

* (our family does not recognize the second 3 movies. It's kind of like a China/Tibet thing, but with geeky science fiction movies.)

Anyway, my wife had found a great Luke Skywalker costume, and sometime before his birthday he got it as a special gift from us.  He loved it, and has been talking about Halloween ever since.  We were a little worried he would change his mind, but he doesn't seem to have lessened his enthusiasm (which is great!)

Although his costume had been planned for months, we had not thought for one second what we would wear.  At the very last minute, as a surprise to him, we realized we should be Luke's parents (my wife thought about going as Princess Leia, but the whole Oedipal thing got a little weird.  With minutes to go and a fortuitous trip to the costume store, we put together our costumes (I did have an old Darth mask, which definitely helped.  The cape I bought at the costume store turned out not to be a cape at all, but a robe, which did not fit.  (One size fits most, but I am not most, apparently!)  Here you see an old cape of my wife's that somehow manages to do the trick, even with the red underneath.

Even though we don't recognize the movie as legitimate, I think my wife makes a nice Amidala.   (and our living room is painted Death Star Green, so that helps!)

What are you going to be for Halloween?
